that your parents don't know. by ~etre-aime:iconetre-aime:

that your parents don't know you, the way you, in the nighttime sit on the rooftops downtown while a boy plays the guitar.  the way the wind blows and you are cold and there is no one there to tell you to button up or to go inside when the rain begins, slowly, to fall.  that, even if they did know, it would not matter because you, thank heavens, are not a child anymore.  having children is tiresome.  they'd rather not know where you are and so you don't call to tell them that tonight you hung your hungry body half over the edge and contemplated gravity. and you don't call to ask them did you ever do that, did you ever wonder if maybe you could fly or if only you would fall?

I really love the whole perspective of this. A lot, it seems really good so far, and I'd like to read the finished version.
I love it.

I think you're a boy with eyes like wishing wells that never come true.
When it's almost a heartbeat away from silence she curls up in closets and the lack of oxygen makes her feel like she can fly.

Gorgeous tone and cadence to the piece. I especially love the last line. Extremely powerful and achingly poignant. The only sentence my rhythm faltered on was at the end of: 'the way the wind blows and you are cold and there is no one there to tell you to button up or to go inside when the rain begins, slowly, to fall.' It seemed fine when I reread, but you could also consider ending the sentence on 'the way the wind blows and you are cold and there is no one there to tell you to button up or to go inside when the rain begins.' My trouble may have come from it being slightly too long, even though the piece thrives on such drawling lines. Beautiful either way, whatever you choose.

this piece is very nice and thought provoking. i enjoy the way you start it, with a sentence that isn't a traditional, 'my parents' or whatever, your phrased it differently and that gave it an over all more pleasing appeal.

i enjoy how you pick one scenario and stick with it, not that jumping all over the place is a bad thing, yet in this case it is effective and brings the piece together as one concept, rather then more then multiple concepts. the italicized parts make you realize that these thoughts streaming through this person's mind, are not simply thought processes, yet actual considerations and feelings for the future, and the sad and hopeful tones, add a good contrast to this piece.

i think over all the piece so far is very nice and effective at having one concept, i would love to see what else you add to this piece since you stated it isn't quite finished yet. i think though, if you stick with this one concept, that is the best way to go, just my opinion though.
